The Dutch S&D delegation in the European Parliament (PvdA) is looking for a policy advisor for the Chair of the European Parliament’s subcommittee on tax matters.

The European Parliament is a dynamic environment where 705 politicians from 27 countries speaking 24 languages work together on complex issues. The PvdA delegation is the biggest Dutch delegation in the Parliament, with six members, and is part of the Socialist and Democrats group. All members have multiple topics in their portfolio, from trade and transport to the design of the European Green Deal. MEP Paul Tang is chair of the FISC subcommittee in the European Parliament since September 2020. As Chair, he promotes a fair and sustainable tax system at the national, EU and global level. To support Paul Tang in this role, we are looking for an experienced and driven policy advisor.

Werkzaamheden

Responsibilities

  • You will work on a wide range of tax-related issues, with a focus on tax fraud, tax avoidance, tax evasion and transparency, as well as on the role of taxation in the European Green Deal.
  • You will contribute proactively to the long-term agenda of the FISC subcommittee. You will contribute to parliamentary reports, hearings and other activities of the FISC subcommittee and keep track of societal and academic developments
  • You will be the link between Paul Tang and the Parliament’s civil-service support team for the FISC subcommittee
  • You will translate technical findings into political actions and press-ready language. You will write memos, speeches, press releases and social media posts, and prepare public engagements and political actions
  • You will maintain contacts within the European institutions, relevant Member States and international organisations dealing with taxation, and engage experts, NGOs and other interest groups in the work of the FISC subcommittee
  • You will contribute to the work of the PvdA delegation as a whole

Your working place will be Brussels, but you will frequently be travelling to Strasbourg. It is a dynamic and diverse job in an international environmental. The contract will initially be for one year but can be prolonged until the end of the mandate of the current European Parliament (June 2024). Remuneration follows the European Parliament salary index for Accredited Parliamentary Assistants (APAs) and is set at an attractive level. The position is available starting July 2021.

Wij vragen

  • Extensive knowledge of fiscal matters and work experience in the field
  • Excellent command of English; other European languages are an asset
  • Knowledge of - and possibly experience with - European institutions and European decision-making processes - or with international organisations working on taxation issues such as the OECD
  • Experience with traditional and/or social media
  • Affinity with - and interest in - social-democratic thought
  • Completed academic education
  • Pro-active and result-oriented

Wij bieden
